Machteld Elissa Jurriaans is an inspiration to me because:
My daughter, Machteld Jurriaans, inspires me. While I have lived my entire life in the Netherlands, studying Classical Antiquity and very happy in my job as curator of the Archaeological Museum of the University of Amsterdam, she travels around the world, studying, working and living in other countries and has spent the last eighteen months in South Africa.
Machteld is enriched by all those other cultures and enjoys the new impressions that constantly change her mind-set and life, since she is never afraid of new experiences. She is the one who opens those other worlds and cultures for me, not only geographically, but also mentally, for she shares her ideas and teaches me how to live a life not bound to one job, place or culture. She told me about the Vlisco company and that how in those beautiful fabrics, Dutch craftsmanship, African traditions and modern design come together, which form the exact mix that she hopes to discover – or bring together herself – once in a job.
