During the whole month of March in 2014 once again Vlisco celebrated women with the Vlisco Women’s Month. This campaign was all about empowering and inspiring women and more specifically to motivate them to ‘Dare to Dream’.

To help starting designers to make their dream of starting their own fashion business come true, Vlisco organized the Vlisco Fashion Fund. Part of this prize was a visit to the Netherlands.

Two of the three winners in 2014 where: Alinafe and Patricia. Alinafe is a fashion designer from Ghana and she has her own atelier in Accra. Patricia is from Ivory Coast and is, besides of being a hostess and a mother, fashion stylist in Abidjan.

Alinafe ‘s dream is to work with women between 18 to 40 years old. This because of the challenging fashion taste of this demanding group, she said. What she expects from this trip? She would like to get more hands-on experience to get a step further in her career.

Patricia’s dream is to start up her own label but first she would like to learn pattern drawing.

What they did during the Vlisco Fashion Fund Trip? They visited the Vlisco factory in Helmond where they got a guided tour and went to the Vlisco’s Design Department. At the Vlisco office, they followed business courses in branding, finance and marketing. And last but not least, they improved their sewing techniques with a MAster Couture Course in Amsterdam.
